Some Question Mahmood’s Moderate Claims After Progressive Backings

Mahmood has surrounded himself with progressive leaders.

Democrat candidate for congress Asif Mahmood has been insisting to voters that he is a moderate, though voters have been questioning this claim due to him being backed by ultra progressives including Senator Alex Padilla, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Rep. Adam Schiff.

Mahmood is running in California’s 40th District, which stretches from south of Pomona down through Eastern Orange County, to Mission Viejo. “Helping people not any political party,” claims the front page of his campaign website. “A problem solver who understands our families’ challenges.”

But some supporters question his moderate claim after a recent June 10 Tweet by Mahmood that wrote, “It was so great running into @AlexPadilla4CA this afternoon! I’m so grateful to have his support in this race.” Padilla, now running for re-election, was tapped by Gov. Gavin Newsom to replace Vice President Kamala Harris in the U.S. Senate. Shortly after he was appointed, the Al Dia website reported, “Only months into his position, Padilla has already cemented himself as a staunch proponent of progressive policies, and these ideologies will be integral to his campaign.”

Newsom, who also has endorsed Mahmood, is running for re-election as a far-left progressive. A glowing article in the June Atlantic magazine wrote of his left-wing vision, “Newsom very consciously has worked to define California as an alternative to the lower-tax, lower-services models of Florida, Texas, and most other Republican-controlled states.”

Also endorsing Mahmood is Rep. Adam Schiff, representing West Hollywood, the most left-wing district in the country.
