The Orange County District Attorney’s office unveiled the new Orange County Crime Victims Monument on Dec. 6. A ceremony was held honoring the county’s crime victims.

“This monument is not just a symbol of those who have passed, but it’s also a magnificent symbol of those who have survived,” District Attorney Todd Spitzer said.

The monument is located between the offices of the DA and Sheriff’s Department. The large boulder is engraved with the words, “In honor of those we have lost and those who have survived. Their faces will never be forgotten, their voices will never be silenced, and the fight for justice will carry on for eternity.”

Spitzer says the boulder symbolizes the heavy burden and pain that victims’ families carry every day.

“Their faces will never be forgotten, their voices will never be silenced, and the fight for justice will carry on for eternity,” said Spitzer regarding crime victims.

Spitzer said that he, along with other law enforcement in Orange County, is always working to improve the safety of their community.

“We sometimes fail you … We do the finest, most incredible work of all law enforcement agencies in the world. I’m so proud of the work that we do, and sometimes we fail,” Spitzer said.

Patricia Wenskunas, the founder of Crime Survivors Inc., called the memorial something that “has been many years coming.”

“As I see the emotion in Todd Spitzer that emotion is real and strong for myself as well,” she said. “I thank Todd for being a voice for the voiceless.”
