Breaking – Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes slams a California bill pushing to legalize psychedelic drugs. Legalization of various drugs for recreational use, including the common date rape drug ketamine, is included in the bill.
The bill, SB 519 was introduced by Sen. Scott Wiener (CA-11). Wiener has been a strong advocate for the decriminalization of these drugs, claiming psychedelic drugs have “significant benefits both for mental health and addiction treatment.”
Sheriff Barnes raised his concerns in a tweet Thursday morning.
To imply the use of ketamine is “recreational” to victims of sexual assault is demeaning and dismissive. There is still an opportunity to defeat this bill in the State Assembly. Please call your Assemblymember and urge them to vote no. https://t.co/ahdePyQXMk

The bill passed the California state Senate in early June. Barnes is encouraging Californians to contact their Assemblymembers and urge them to vote no on SB 519.
