REDISTRICTING NEWS: Irvine City Council Votes To Remain United in One Congressional District

The Irvine City Council voted last week to not break up the city into various districts, keeping the cities interests unified.

Last week, the Irvine City Council voted to pass a resolution asking the California Redistricting Commission to keep Irvine unified in one Congressional District. The vote was bipartisan and resulted in a 4-1 approval.

After the Irvine vote, Newport Beach passed a similar resolution last week. The city pushed back on the recent congressional maps by the Orange County board of supervisors.

“Irvine is truly a unified community of interest, and we need it incorporated in its entirety within one Congressional district, one State Senate district, and one State Assembly district,” said Irvine Councilmember Larry Agran in a statement.
