Rep. Porter Says Inflation and Need for Abortion “Reinforce” Each Other

The California Congresswoman says high prices mean choosing how many “mouths to feed”.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) recently said the rising inflation reinforces the need for abortion. During an MSNBC interview on “Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell”, she explained how inflation and abortion “reinforce” each other. Porter is currently running for re-election in California’s newly drawn 47th District.

When asked how inflation and abortion compare as important issues, she replied, “Well, I don’t think they compare, I think they actually reinforce each other. So the fact that things like inflation can happen, and it can become more expensive to feed your kids and to fuel your car, is exactly why people need to be able to be in charge of how many mouths they’re going to have to feed.”

She’s saying the solution to the problem of inflation, which even Democrats agree has been caused by President Biden’s policies, is to abort more “mouths to feed.”

Porter’s comments have been met with harsh criticism. Some are pointing out that Porter’s newly drawn district she is running for reelection in only leans one point Democrat. This could leave her seat vulnerable in November 2022.

This controversial exchange was a response to the leak that the U.S. Supreme Court likely will reverse the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that overturned the abortion laws in all 50 states, even those that already had legalized it, such as Porter’s home state of California.

Porter also voted for the abortion bill that would have mandated total national legalization, while removing the “conscience” clauses that allowed doctors and nurses to opt-out of performing them.
