Costa Mesa Sanitary District Director Nicole Wiltshire Refers to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination as “Not Immoral”

Screenshots flagged show now-deleted Facebook posts; Wiltshire won a CMSD board seat in November 2024.

Nicole Wiltshire, an elected board director for the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD), made and then deleted a series of social media posts about slain conservative icon Charlie Kirk after screenshots circulated online.

She wrote, “It’s not immoral to say, “Live by the sword, die by the sword,” when a violent person dies by violence. It’s not condoning violence, it’s not escalating rhetoric – it’s stating the obvious and taking a stand.”

She continued, “Also, “When they go low, we go high,” might have been one of the most harmful pieces of propaganda from the last 20 years. This isn’t advocating for going low, but ignoring a violent bully never works.”

The Orange County Republican Party highlighted the posts on X with images said to be from Wiltshire’s Facebook account; by the time of publication, the posts were no longer publicly visible.

Wiltshire represents Division 2 on the CMSD board and is serving a four-year term (2024-2028) after being elected in November 2024 and sworn in on Dec. 10, 2024. District records list her as a Costa Mesa resident since 2009.

CMSD materials say her priorities include protecting local waterways and expanding recycling programs. Her official candidate statement describes her as a small-business professional and notes: “I’m not a career politician—I’m a neighbor who cares about our city and wants to make sure we maintain a reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible sanitation system.”

The online controversy follows national attention on reactions to Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University earlier this month. Prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old Utah man with aggravated murder; authorities say they will pursue the death penalty.

Wiltshire has not issued a public statement addressing the deleted posts. CMSD’s website lists board contact information and media inquiries through the district clerk’s office.
